Subject: S38-E25470-H - Approve the purchase of two fire booster trucks through the Houston-Galveston Area Council (H-GAC) in the total amount of $249,976.00 for the Houston Fire Department.
Specific Explanation:
The Director of the Fleet Management Department and the City Purchasing Agent recommend that City Council approve the purchase of two 14,000-lb Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) cab & chassis and two booster skid bodies through the Interlocal Agreement for Cooperative Purchasing with the Houston-Galveston Area Council (H-GAC) in the total amount of $249,976.00 for the Houston Fire Department and that authorization be given to issue a purchase order to the H-GAC contractor, Chastang Enterprises, Inc. d/b/a Chastang’s Bayou City Ford. These fire booster trucks will be used to combat brush/wildfire incidents and transport water rescue resources throughout the City of Houston.
This purchase consists of two 14,000-lb. GVWR cab & chassis and two booster skid bodies. The booster skid bodies are equipped with a 300 gallon water tank and booster reels. The fire booster trucks (units) will come with warranties of three years/36,000 miles bumper to bumper; five years/60,000 miles on the powertrain; and five years/100,000 miles on the diesel engines. These new units will meet the EPA’s current emission standards for trucks with diesel engines.
Hire Houston First:
This procurement is exempt from the City’s Hire Houston First Ordinance. Bids/proposals were not solicited because the department is utilizing an Interlocal or Cooperative Purchasing Agreement for this purchase.
