SUBJECT: Motion to extend unpaid leave of absence for Sylvester Noble, Utility Worker.
RECOMMENDATION: (Summary) Approve the motion to extend unpaid leave of absence for Sylvester Noble, Utility Worker.
SPECIFIC EXPLANATION:
On January 5, 2016, the Department of Public Works and Engineering recommended that Mr. Sylvester Noble be medically separated. Since then, a city-wide job search and a department-wide job search were conducted. However, no position was available that would accommodate his restrictions.
Mr. Noble has a medical condition that has prevented his return to work. He has used all of his sick time, FML time, vacation time and two unpaid leaves of absence that were approved by the Municipal Civil Service Commission up to December 19, 2015.
In accordance with Code of Ordinances 14-172, any further unpaid leaves of absence must be approved by the City Council. Therefore, the department requests that City Council approve an extended unpaid leave of absence from December 20, 2015, through June 27, 2016, for Mr. Noble. He was removed from payroll effective June 28, 2016.
