Summary:

RECOMMENDATION from Director Department of Public Works & Engineering for approval of final contract amount of $1,103,164.17 and acceptance of work on contract with AW MECHANICAL SERVICES, L.P. for Water Substitute Services Program: Water Meter Relocation - 12.25% under the original contract amount - DISTRICTS A - STARDIG; B - DAVIS; C - COHEN; G - TRAVIS; H - CISNEROS and I - GALLEGOS

Background:

SUBJECT:  Accept Work for Water Substitute Services Program: Water Meter Relocation, WBS No. S-002015-0001-4.

 

RECOMMENDATION:  (Summary)  Pass a motion to approve the final contract amount of $1,103,164.17 or 12.25% under the original contract amount, accept the work, and authorize final payment.  

 

PROJECT NOTICE/JUSTIFICATION:  Under this project, the contractor provided for the relocation of various backlot of home water meters to the front of homes and abandonment of water lines in the backlot of homes.

 

DESCRIPTION/SCOPE: This project provided for the relocation of water meters and services from the backlot of homes to the front side. The project also included abandonment of existing water lines and water service lines in the backlot areas of homes and commercial properties. The project was awarded to AW Mechanical Services, L.P. with an original contract amount of $1,257,210.94. The Notice to Proceed date was 09/16/2013 and the project had 547 calendar days for completion.   

 

LOCATION:  The work performed under the contract included Council Districts A, B, C, G, H & I locations.

 

CONTRACT COMPLETION AND COST:  The Contractor, AW Mechanical Services, L.P. has completed the work under the contract. The Project was completed with an additional 90 days by Change Order No. 1. The final cost of the project, including overrun and underrun of estimated bid quantities, is $1,103,164.17 a decrease of $154,046.77 or 12.25% under the original contract amount.

 

MWBE PARTICIPATION:  The MWSBE goal for this project was 20%.  According to Office of Business Opportunity, the actual participation was 20.49%.  The contractor was awarded a “Satisfactory” rating.

No additional funding is required. 

 

Original appropriation of $1,450.000.00 from the Water and Sewer System Consolidated Construction Fund No. 8500.
